TZM Molybdenum Overview
TZM (titanium-zirconium-molybdenum) is molybdenum alloyed with about 0.5% titanium and 0.1% zirconium. These small additions raise the recrystallization temperature from about 1100 °C for pure molybdenum to about 1400 °C and give TZM higher strength and creep resistance at high temperature, while it keeps molybdenum's density, very high melting point and low thermal expansion.
Midwest Tungsten Service stocks TZM rod made to ASTM B387 and TZM sheet and plate made to ASTM B386, both Molybdenum Alloy 364 (powder metallurgy), and machines custom TZM parts to your print.
TZM Molybdenum Properties & Uses
TZM Molybdenum Advantages
TZM Molybdenum Advantages
- Higher tensile strength than pure molybdenum
- Higher creep strength than pure molybdenum
- Higher recrystallization temperature than pure molybdenum
TZM Molybdenum Applications
TZM Molybdenum Applications
- Vacuum and high-temperature furnace hardware: heating-element supports, heat shields, fixtures, fasteners, boats and trays
- Hot-work tooling, die-casting cores and isothermal forging dies
- Rotating X-ray anode bodies and other parts that must keep their strength where pure molybdenum softens

Welding Instructors Need to Recommend Their Tungsten Carefully
Arguably the most important piece of the entire Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) or Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) effort, the tungsten electrode allows the energy to travel through the heat-resistant material and start the arc, which connects with the base metal.
