Description

NEW Magnesium Cubes!

After many years of customer requests, magnesium cubes are finally here! These cubes have a beautiful brushed finish, which highlights the silvery-white color of this unique element. It is incredibly light alloy (density of 1.77 g/cc), especially when compared to our dense tungsten cubes (density of 18 g/cc).

1.500" x 1.500" x 1.500" Mg Cube: 0.22 lbs

2.000" x 2.000" x 2.000" Mg Cube: 0.51 lbs

2.500" x 2.500" x 2.500" Mg Cube: 1.00 lbs

3.255" x 3.255"' x 3.255" Mg Cube: 2.20 lbs

4.000" x 4.000" x 4.000" Mg Cube: 4.11 lbs

If you love this product, you should check out our tungsten and magnesium cube sets! A 1.5" tungsten cube is a staggering 2.2 lbs, while a 1.5" magnesium cube is 0.2 lbs.

Frequently asked questions

How light is a magnesium cube?

At 1.77 g/cm³, magnesium is one of the lightest structural metals. The 1" cube weighs about 1 oz, the 1.5" is 0.22 lb, the 2" is 0.51 lb, the 2.5" is 1.00 lb, the 3.255" is 2.20 lb (1 kg), and the 4" cube is 4.11 lb.

Why the 3.255" size?

It's the kilogram cube: at magnesium's density, a 3.255" cube weighs 1 kg — the same weight as our 1.5" tungsten cube, in a much larger volume.

What alloy is it?

AZ31B magnesium alloy, with a brushed finish that highlights the element's silvery-white color.

Is magnesium safe to handle?

Yes. A solid magnesium block is safe to handle and display. The fire risk associated with magnesium applies to fine shavings and powder, not solid blocks — just don't grind or machine it without proper precautions.

How does it compare to the tungsten cube?

A 1.5" tungsten cube weighs 2.2 lb; the same size magnesium cube weighs 0.22 lb — a tenfold difference. If you want the pair, see our Tungsten and Magnesium Cube Sets.
